Copeland Creek cleanup Sept. 28

Young people are encouraged to join the Sonoma County Water Agency and the Sonoma County Youth Ecology Corps (SCYEC) in four community creek days scheduled for the fall and winter.

The first event is slated for Saturday, Sept. 28, in conjunction with Creek Week – a weeklong celebration of local creeks.

The community service day will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at Copeland Creek in Rohnert Park.  This event is co-sponsored by Credo High School, whose students will be participating in the cleanup.

Participants will clean up trash, learn about their watershed and earn community service hours.

This is an opportunity for youth to volunteer in the community and make new friends.  The event will take place in light rain; heavy rain cancels (if in doubt, call 521-6209 for a recorded message).

The Sonoma County Youth Ecology Corps has employed more than 1,200 young people  ages 14-24 in summer jobs that benefit the environment and the community while providing a paycheck.  Participants should park at Credo High School, 1290 Southwest Blvd. in Rohnert Park.
