Supervisor Zane to perform wedding ceremonies Feb. 14

On Jan. 1, Senate Bill 991 became law and allows sitting County Supervisors to solemnize marriage ceremonies as part of their official duties.

To celebrate this new authority, Supervisor Shirlee Zane will be working at the Clerk’s Office performing wedding ceremonies on the afternoon of Valentine’s Day.

“Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love.  It is an incredible honor to be able to support loving couples who seek the sanctity of matrimony,” Zane said. “Since Feb. 14 is one of the most popular days of the year for wedding ceremonies, I am happy to help out and perform a few wedding ceremonies.”

This year, Valentine’s Day falls on a Thursday, and the Clerk’s Office will offer appointments for wedding ceremonies all day.  Due to a requirement in the new state law to receive training before conducting a ceremony, only Supervisor Shirlee Zane and Supervisor David Rabbitt are currently authorized.

A couple must have an appointment with the Clerk’s Office for a ceremony.  There are available appointments and interested couples can call 565-3800 for more information.

The Sonoma County Clerk’s Office also issues certified copies of birth, death and marriage certificates; files Fictitious Business Name statements; files oaths of office for notary publics; registers process servers, unlawful detainer assistants, legal document assistants and professional photocopiers; as well as a variety of other duties.
