|Group to open new eatery at Latitude location in 2013
Restaurant to be named Flipside Brewhouse
Word came from Sonoma Count restaurateur Nino Rabbaa announcing his company, Sonoma County Hospitality Group, will reopen Latitude Restaurant in the Jimmie Rogers Center (formerly Doubletree Plaza) on Golf Course Drive and Roberts Lake Road sometime in 2013.
Latitude's been closed for nearly two years. It, along with Hana Japanese restaurant and Mary's Pizza Shack, formed the major dining spots in the center.
It'll be called Flipside Brewhouse, and Rabbaa said it's in the "concept development" stage at this point.
Rabbaa also said he will reopen a restaurant to be called Flipside Steakhouse at 138 Calistoga Road in Santa Rosa. Latitude was a hit location practically from the day it opened.
The Sonoma County Wine Center used to be located there with stainless steel wine tanks on the inside and demonstration vineyard on the outside.
The center moved further north of Santa Rosa to be closer to the wineries. Then, the county picked the site for a Visitors' Center with maps and brochures for tourists.
The restaurant itself was the major attraction with its upscale menu, a waterfall behind the bar and an outside deck on the edge of Roberts Lake (named after Mayor Art Roberts) providing a superb scenic setting.
The lake became the site of RP's annual summer Fishing Derby, also a fenced area to exercise dogs and a haven for geese, ducks and seagulls.
Further details on Rabbaa's "concept development" plan for the former Latitude will emerge in the next few months.
